What should I do about my stubborn wife who leaves the house without my permission, does not listen to me, and frequently goes out under the pretext of visiting her family and attending events, while not caring that there are young children who need care?

If the wife insists on obstinacy and repeatedly leaves the house without her husband's permission, and neglects her children, she is sinful and disobedient (nashiz), and she must repent. The husband has many rights, among them that his wife should not leave except with his permission, as indicated by the hadith: "If your women ask your permission to go to the mosque at night, then permit them." The matter should be handled with wisdom and gentleness, by guiding her and reminding her of the husband's rights and obedience. If she does not respond, the husband should forsake her in bed. If that does not work, he may strike her a non-injurious blow if it will be beneficial; otherwise, mediators should be involved to bring about reconciliation. The husband should remember the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "No believing man should hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another."
