What is the ruling on money earned from studying in colleges of Sharia and Law?

Teaching Sharia is a virtue, highly recommended, and falls under Furood al-Kifayat (collective obligations). The ruling on teaching law differs according to the situation and purpose; it can be permissible or misguided. The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas has permitted teaching man-made laws to expose their falsity and demonstrate the supremacy of Sharia. It is permissible to receive payment for it, and it may even be obligatory if there is a need for it. However, teaching it out of desire for it or to promote it is an act of disbelief (kufr). The general principle is that the money earned by someone teaching in a Faculty of Sharia and Law is lawful.
