What is the ruling on love before marriage, if it is for the purpose of marriage, especially since it has benefits such as avoiding masturbation?

The relationship of love between young men and women is impermissible. If a man's heart becomes attached to a woman without his seeking it, then what is permissible for him is to propose to her. If her guardian agrees, he should marry her; otherwise, he should turn away from her. If marriage is not possible, he must remove this attachment and busy himself with what benefits him. Occupying oneself with what benefits in religious and worldly matters is the reason for staying away from masturbation. The young man should utilize his youthful energy in what benefits him, and he will be questioned about his youth on the Day of Judgment. We advise strengthening one's connection with Allah by observing prayers, attending circles of knowledge, and associating with the righteous.
