Does the marriage contract become void if one of the spouses apostatizes before consummation, and what if the apostate repents before consummation, and does the devil's whisperings affect this ruling?

The apostasy of either spouse before consummating the marriage immediately annuls the marriage contract. This separation is not counted as a divorce by the majority of scholars. If the apostate repents and returns to Islam, and they wish to resume their relationship, the contract must be renewed with its essential elements. As for obsessive thoughts (waswasah), they do not lead to apostasy; one must ignore them and seek refuge in Allah from Satan.
