What is the preponderant opinion concerning one who reviles Allah the Almighty or commits an act that nullifies Islam, whether that was before the marriage contract or after it? Is repentance alone sufficient for him without renewing the contract, especially before its consummation? And what is the difference between the two cases?

The preponderant opinion among scholars is that the separation between spouses, if one of them apostatizes, depends on the expiry of the waiting period ('iddah). If this occurs before consummation, the marriage contract is immediately annulled and they are separated, as there is no 'iddah for a non-consummated marriage. However, if it occurs after consummation and the apostate does not repent until the 'iddah expires, then the marriage contract must be renewed with all its pillars. But if the apostate repents before the 'iddah expires, there is no need to renew the contract. A person suffering from obsessive doubts (waswas), especially if the obsession is compulsive, is not judged to have apostatized or to have divorced, as long as this is due to the effect of these obsessive doubts.
