The husband's family are not part of the kinship that is obligatory to maintain ties with; rather, kinship refers to relatives from the father's and mother's sides. Visiting the wife's relatives and treating them kindly helps the husband maintain ties with his own kin. Responding to their ill-treatment with kindness is likely to lead them back to righteousness and change their approach. It is not permissible to seek divorce except in cases of harm, and a woman who asks her husband for divorce without a valid reason will not smell the fragrance of Paradise. It is not permissible to cut off a daughter from her father's relatives because they are her kin, and their failure to maintain ties with their own kin does not justify this.
