There is no authentic hadith that specifies the place of the Mahdi's emergence. It has been reported that he will emerge from the East or from Khorasan, as mentioned in the hadith of Thawban, which some have authenticated while others have deemed it weak. It has also been narrated that he will emerge from Medina, fleeing to Mecca, and people will pledge allegiance to him between the Rukn and the Maqam, but this hadith is weak. Some scholars have attempted to reconcile these statements by suggesting that the Mahdi will emerge from the East and then take refuge in Mecca, coming from Medina. As for the tribes of Banu Tamim, it has been reported that they will fight the Dajjal, and the hadith about the young man from Tamim, the standard-bearer of the Mahdi, is not authentic. Some hadiths indicate that contemporary civilization will vanish, and humanity will return to fighting with traditional weapons.
