Is the yellow cow mentioned in Surat al-Baqarah a special cow created by God for a specific wisdom, or is it a known type of cow?

Allah commanded the Children of Israel to slaughter a cow to resolve their dispute concerning the killer of one of their men. Moses chose a specific cow for them to deal with, but they made things difficult for themselves with their unnecessary questions and details. Had they chosen any cow, it would have sufficed. The purpose of the story is the lesson derived from it: that excessive strictness in unbeneficial religious matters leads to hardship, and that knowing details that offer no religious benefit is worthless.
