Is it true what a person claims, that he is a saint of God and an heir of the Messenger, and in contact with angels, and possesses supernatural powers? And who are the righteous saints of God at this time?

The allies (awliya') of Allah Almighty are those who have believed and were ever conscious of Him. Their piety lies in obeying Allah's commands and refraining from His prohibitions, both secretly and openly. The distinguishing mark between them and the allies of Satan is their adherence to Allah's Sharia in belief, worship, dealings, and conduct. The greatest miracle (karamah) for Allah's allies is steadfastness. As for inspirations and unveilings (mukashafat), they do not indicate the superiority of their recipient, and they may even occur to those who are less virtuous. Satanic suggestions are specific to the deviants, soothsayers, and innovators. A Muslim should not be preoccupied with inspirations and unveilings because no legal ruling derives from them, and the religion has been perfected. Inspiration is never to be acted upon. Whoever wishes to be an heir to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, must be a knowledgeable, pious, pure, and scrupulous person; for indeed, scholars are the inheritors of the prophets.
