Is it permissible to work in the field of restoring Islamic, Coptic, and Pharaonic antiquities?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

That which has been commanded to be removed from antiquities, such as idols and elevated graves, is not permissible to restore. As for that which has not been prohibited, and serves as a means of understanding the history and cultures of nations, there is no objection to restoring it and taking payment for it. Indeed, Allah has commanded us to travel through the land and observe the traces of those who came before us.
