What is the ruling on naming a daughter with a Latin name like "Sophia," which means "wisdom," and is it permissible to name children with Latin names that carry beautiful meanings?

It is forbidden to be named with foreign names if they are exclusive to disbelievers, such as Butrus (Peter), Jirjis (George), and George. However, if they are shared among Muslims and others, then there is no منع (prohibition) from being named with them, such as Isa (Jesus) and Sulaiman (Solomon). It is preferable to name a girl with good, authentic names, like the names of the female companions (Sahabiyat) and the female successors (Tabi'iyat).
