What is the interpretation of the noble verse: "But whoever disputes with you concerning him after knowledge has come to you, say, 'Come, let us call our sons and your sons and our women and your women and ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars'"? And is it true, as the Shias claim, that "ourselves" refers to Ali, "our sons" refers to Al-Hasan and Al-Hussein, and "our women" refers to Fatimah Az-Zahraa, and that "our women" is a plural of veneration for Fatimah Az-Zahraa?

Ahl al-Sunnah are a middle ground between the Nawasib and the Rawafid. They combine love and veneration for the Ahl al-Bayt with moderation in that.

The verse of Mubahalah indicates the virtue of the Ahl al-Bayt, and it definitively includes Ali, Fatimah, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn, based on the hadith in Muslim that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, called them when it was revealed.

The verse is not limited to these four but includes others from the Ahl al-Bayt. It indicates the status of these four and their superiority over others from the Ahl al-Bayt.

Interpreting the words as exclusively referring to al-Hasan, al-Husayn, Fatimah, and Ali is incorrect. Rather, the most that can be said is that they are included in it, or are most deserving of it.
