Is it permissible to persistently engage in absolute dhikr—that which is not restricted by time or number—with the intention of increasing good deeds?

The remembrance of Allah is among the best deeds and acts of closeness to Him. Many verses and hadiths have been narrated concerning the virtue of remembrance (dhikr), such as the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance" (Quran 33:41), and His saying: "So remember Me; I will remember you" (Quran 2:152). Also, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Let your tongue be always moist with the remembrance of Allah." Therefore, persistence in absolute remembrance, without restricting it to a specific number or time, is good. However, it is also necessary to adhere to the restricted remembrances that are authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him).
