What is the meaning of the رضا (contentment/satisfaction) that is not achieved from the People of the Book towards Muslims, despite the command to show ihsan (excellence/kindness) to them and to treat them with birr (righteousness/goodness) and qist (justice/equity), and the permissibility of marrying them?

Treating disbelievers kindly and marrying Kitabiyyat (women of the book) does not imply their approval, for Allah Almighty says: "And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion." Allah has legislated showing kindness and justice to them, and treating them well, as long as they are not belligerent. This is among the noble morals that draw some of them closer to Islam. A Muslim must act according to the Sharia in dealing with them, seeking Allah's pleasure, not to please the disbelievers, in accordance with His saying: "Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them." And He commanded companionship with disbelieving parents with kindness, and there are narrations permitting maintaining ties with a polytheistic father or brother. As for contentment, it is the opposite of displeasure and hatred.
