How is an estate, consisting of a three-story house and a tailor shop, divided among the wife, a son, and three daughters, taking into consideration the father's verbal promises to the son and one of the daughters, the daughter's addition of a fourth floor to the house with her own money, her assistance to her sisters in their education and marriage, and the mother's and one of the sisters' contributions to working in the shop?

A father must be just in giving gifts to his children; it is not permissible to favor some over others. Therefore, the promise made by the father must not be fulfilled, and the inheritance must be distributed according to Islamic law. As for the apartment you built with your own money, it is yours alone, and the heirs have no right to it. When dividing the estate, the apartment should be valued as an independent structure, without including its share of the land value.
