What is the ruling on a husband giving his wife medication to abort her against her will in the second month? Is it permissible to divorce a pregnant wife or compel her to relinquish her rights before divorce?

1. Aborting a pregnancy is absolutely impermissible. Its prohibition becomes even stricter after the ensoulment. A wife is not permitted to obey her husband in aborting the pregnancy. If she aborts the pregnancy after ensoulment (after four months), she is obligated to offer expiation (freeing a slave or fasting for two consecutive months), in addition to the blood money for the fetus (a ghurrah: a male or female slave).

2. Divorcing a pregnant woman is a Sunnah divorce and is permissible at any time during the pregnancy, because her waiting period ends with childbirth.

3. It is not permissible for the husband to take anything from his wife's wealth except with her willing consent, nor from her mahr, unless she commits a clear indecency like adultery or severe misconduct.
