What is "predominant conjecture"? Is predominant conjecture permissible in matters of faith? And is "conjecture" in His — the Almighty’s — saying: (Those who are certain that they will meet their Lord and that to Him they will return) the predominant conjecture?

"Dhan" (conjecture/assumption) in the اصطلاح الأصوليين (terminology of the Usuliyyun/principles of Islamic jurisprudence scholars) is the stronger probability between two possibilities. As for belief in Allah the Almighty, it requires absolute certainty. The problem with the verse: (الَّذِينَ يَظُنُّونَ أَنَّهُمْ مُلَاقُو رَبِّهِمْ) "those who are certain that they will meet their Lord" is that "dhan" is used in the Arabic language to mean certainty, as explained by العلامة الشنقيطي (Al-Allamah Al-Shanqeeti) — may Allah have mercy on him — who cited other verses and sayings of the Arabs where "dhan" is intended to mean certainty.
