Is divorcing one's wife for her refusal to pray and wear the hijab valid and rewarded?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the wife insists on abandoning prayer and refusing the hijab, then divorce is recommended, and it may even be obligatory, according to Ibn Qudamah: "Fourth: It is recommended when the wife neglects her obligatory duties towards Allah, such as prayer and the like, and he is unable to compel her to perform them... And it is possible that divorce in these two instances is obligatory." And also, according to his statement: "...He said concerning a man whose wife does not pray, he should beat her lightly, not severely... If she still does not pray, Ahmad said: 'I fear that it is not permissible for a man to remain with a woman who does not pray, nor perform ghusl after Janabah, nor learn the Quran.'"
