Is the money of a Qur'an teacher who does not pray unlawful (haram)?

It is permissible to take a fee for teaching the Holy Qur’an. The Qur’an teacher should be a good role model for his students, and if he does not pray, this is a grave error. The preponderant opinion is that one who abandates prayer is a disbeliever with major disbelief, unless he is imitating someone who does not consider the abandonment of prayer to be disbelief, in which case he is not ruled to be a disbeliever. It is permissible for the Qur’an teacher to take a fee for his teaching while not praying, because the fee is in exchange for the teaching of the Qur’an that he performed. It is most likely that he does not abandon prayer entirely, or he imitates someone who does not consider the abandonment of prayer to be disbelief. It is preferable for the student to seek a teacher who is a good role model.
