Is it obligatory to complete the marriage despite the father's objection to the girl's lack of beauty, after the marriage contract and consummation, or to divorce her to please the father, taking into consideration the girl's social status after divorce?
The father should be reminded of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Marry the one who is religious, and may your hands be soiled (with prosperity)." He should also be reminded that the happiness of marriage lies in the wife's religiosity, chastity, and modesty, for beauty is relative and transient, while character and religion endure. If the father insists on divorce, then he is not to be obeyed in this matter, because "obedience is only in what is good," and his command to divorce the wife without a valid reason is not considered good. He must be accompanied with kindness and obeyed in matters that do not involve disobedience. Speak to him with "a noble word" and remind him of Allah's saying: "But perhaps you hate a thing and Allah makes therein much good" and "But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not."
