The wife is commanded to stay in her husband's home. If she leaves without his permission, she must return whenever the husband requests it. If she refuses to return, she is considered disobedient (nashiz) and is not entitled to maintenance. She is responsible for the cost of her return, and the husband is not obligated to bring her back, because she forfeited the right to marital relations by leaving for her own needs. Ibn Qudamah said: "If his wife travels without his permission, her maintenance is forfeited because she is disobedient, and similarly if she moves from his house without his permission." The husband is advised, if the wife insists on not returning, to go and bring her back and atone for his oath. He may also treat her as a disobedient wife.
