If a man divorces his wife with an irrevocable divorce (Talaq Ba'in), she is not entitled to maintenance (nafaqah) or lodging (sukna) during her 'iddah (waiting period), unless she is pregnant. This is based on the Almighty's saying: (وَإِنْ كُنَّ أُولَاتِ حَمْلٍ فَأَنْفِقُوا عَلَيْهِنَّ حَتَّى يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ) "And if they are pregnant, then spend on them until they deliver their burden." It is also based on what was reported from Fatimah bint Qays, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not grant her lodging or maintenance after her irrevocable divorce.

Irrevocable divorce is of two types: minor (before consummation or through khul') and major (after the completion of three divorces).

If she is allowed to remain in his house, she must observe hijab from him. It is preferable, however, for her to observe her 'iddah in her family's home to prevent any potential discord.

Embracing a divorcée with an irrevocable divorce is forbidden for her former husband. Both of them must repent to Allah, as they have become strangers to each other due to the irrevocable divorce. They are not permitted to remarry each other unless she marries another man out of genuine desire, and that marriage is consummated, and then he divorces her or passes away.
