What is the ruling on a son fleeing from his father's abuse and marrying without his knowledge? Is this considered disobedience to parents?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Filial piety is an obligation, and the rights of parents are confirmed. Allah Almighty has commanded kindness towards them and warned against disobeying them, even if they wrong their child. It is permissible for a father to take from his son's wealth if he is in need, but without harming him. One should connect with their parents through money and gifts if that pleases them. Repent to Allah for your disobedience and estrangement from your father before it is too late, for no one who severs ties of kinship will enter Paradise. You can seek help from an intermediary to reconcile between you. You are not obligated to give him access to your salary if you are in need, especially if he is wealthy and not in need. And do not contemplate suicide, for it is one of the gravest sins.
