The wife is not obligated to visit her husband's family, as they are not her kin whose ties are obligatory to maintain, unless there is a blood relation. The husband should strive to reconcile between his wife and his family, conveying words that foster affection, even if they are not entirely factual, while reminding both parties of the virtue of responding to ill-treatment with kindness. If the wife refuses to visit her husband's family, he should not blame her. He himself must maintain ties with his kin and be dutiful to his mother. He is not permitted to divorce her for this reason, as long as he is pleased with her religiosity and character.
