Is it considered a sin to sever ties of kinship in the event that an aunt swore not to enter her house after a dispute with her daughter?
Whoever initiates greetings with her needy relative has done well, but if she ignores her, she has done wrong; for abandoning a Muslim without a legitimate reason is forbidden, and it is even more forbidden in the context of maintaining kinship ties. If the aunt prevents her niece from entering her house, the niece should try to maintain ties with her through other means, and anything customarily considered a connection is indeed a connection. Efforts should be made towards reconciliation, and righteous people should be involved as intermediaries. If one party strives to maintain ties and the other refuses, the sin falls upon the one who refuses.
