Is a person's failure to communicate with his female cousin after she broke off her engagement to him for another person considered a severance of the ties of kinship that prevents his deeds from being raised (accepted)?

The daughter of one's paternal aunt is not among the kin whose ties are obligatory to maintain, according to the more preponderant opinion. Severing ties with her is not considered the forbidden severing of kin ties. However, one should move past what has occurred and not harbor resentment towards her. Intentionally shunning her, even regarding greetings of peace, might fall under the prohibited contention. It is sufficient to offer her greetings of peace when meeting her, to avoid the ruling of shunning, as Imam Ahmad said to someone whose paternal aunt's daughter used to insult him: "If you meet her, greet her with peace; cut off the animosity."
