What is the ruling on a woman shaving her head?

A woman is not permitted to shave her head except out of necessity, due to the prohibition reported from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) concerning that. Some scholars have interpreted this as disfigurement (muthlah). However, if there is a necessity, such as being unable to style it or if vermin infest it, then there is no harm in doing so.
