How many men ate with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battle of Al-Khandaq (the Trench)?

The story of Jabir and his wife, and their invitation of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and their food, is narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari and other collections. This story is considered among the proofs of his prophethood, peace and blessings be upon him, due to the multiplication of food that occurred therein, from which a large number of Companions ate, disproportionate to a small slaughtered animal and a sa' of barley. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar mentioned in Fath al-Bari various narrations regarding the number of Companions, including that they were nine hundred, and it was said eight hundred, and other numbers were also mentioned.
