What is the ruling regarding the Imam praying in the street in front of the mosque due to the mosque's small size and the large number of worshippers, and to avoid the congregants preceding him if he were to pray inside the mosque?

It is not appropriate for the Imam and the congregants to pray in the road due to the distraction it causes to the heart and the exposure to things that preoccupy the mind, preventing presence of heart. The prohibition of praying in such a place has been mentioned. Prayer there is disliked due to the heart being preoccupied by people passing by and the narrowing of the space for them. The reason for the prohibition of praying in the middle of the road is that it occupies a public right-of-way and prevents people from passing, and it distracts the mind from devotion. However, if there is a need for it, such as a mosque being too small, then there is no harm in it, especially if there is assurance that no one will pass in front of the worshipper.
