How does a person with a cold and a blocked nose perform istinshāq (sniffing water into the nose), and is it sufficient for him to insert water with his finger? Is it permissible to divide the fasting of the two months of expiation among relatives on behalf of the deceased?

Inhalating water (Istinshaq) during ablution is a Sunnah according to the majority of scholars, and obligatory according to some. A person suffering from a cold should inhale water to the best of their ability and is not required to insert their finger into their nose.

As for fasting two consecutive months on behalf of the deceased as expiation for accidental killing, its permissibility has been favored. However, it is not sufficient for several different people to fast on their behalf, as this would not fulfill the condition of consecutive fasting, as consecutive fasting requires the fasting person to be one individual.
