The question

Is it true that Allah strengthens the heart and facilitates the opportunity after performing Istikhara prayer, even if the person praying is hesitant? And should I perform Istikhara prayer and rely on Allah in any matter, so if it is good, Allah will complete it, and if it is evil, He will avert it? Or are there signs that appear from the beginning, such as a dream or a feeling of unease? And is what I did, refusing a new job opportunity and remaining in the old one, impermissible in Sharia? And should Istikhara prayer be performed before sleeping, and is it obligatory not to speak with anyone afterward?

The answer

The constriction or expansion of the chest after performing istikharah (prayer for guidance) is considered valid and acted upon, unless it is related to one's personal desires, in which case it should be disregarded.

It is sunnah for the one performing istikharah to do what his heart feels expanded towards. He must abandon his personal desires and choices to be truthful in his istikharah.

Istikharah is a supplication that Allah answers in one of three ways: either He grants the servant what he asked for, or He averts a similar harm from him, or He stores its reward for him until the Day of Resurrection. It is not necessary for the one performing istikharah to be granted what he asked for in any case.

There is no evidence to specify the time for the istikharah prayer as being before sleep. Rather, it is performed whenever one is concerned about a matter, at any time. It should not be restricted to a specific time. It is permissible to speak after istikharah unless the speech involves disobedience.
