What are the reasons for the revelation of Surat al-Waqi'ah?

Surat Al-Waqi'ah (The Event) is unanimously agreed upon to be Makki. There is no known specific reason for the revelation of the entire Surah, except for what has been reported regarding the reasons for the revelation of some of its verses:

- The verse (فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ) "Nay, I swear by the setting of the stars" was revealed when some people disbelieved that rain was a mercy from Allah and attributed it to the astrological mansions.

- The two verses (ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ) "A multitude from the former generations And a few from the latter ones" followed by (ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ) "A multitude from the former generations And a multitude from the latter ones" were revealed when the Muslims were distressed by the small number of those from the latter generations.

- The verse (وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ) "And the companions of the right – what are the companions of the right?" was revealed when the people of Ta'if asked about a valley that had honey in it, and they wished for something similar in Paradise.
