How valid is Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s call to "lend to the Sufis, and to 'Sufi-fy' the Salafis"?

The correct methodology, based on the Quran and Sunnah, includes rectifying beliefs, acts of worship, and dealings, as well as refining conduct and morals. The best people to have adhered to this methodology were the righteous predecessors (Salaf al-Salih). Some may claim to follow the Salaf, but they limit themselves to certain issues and neglect to implement the Salaf's methodology in conduct, morals, and merciful interaction. The deficiency lies in individuals, not in the preserved methodology.

Non-extremist Sufis have given great attention to the issue of conduct. Sheikh Qaradawi's statement about "Sufi-fying Salafism" can be understood as an urging for those affiliated with the Salaf's methodology to care for refining conduct and improving morals. The failure of some individuals affiliated with Salafism in our time to fully embody the complete methodology is due to the absence of role models and mentors, and arrogance stemming from knowledge. Hence, Sheikh Qaradawi's advice: true knowledge humbles the soul and increases reverence and compassion.
