Is there a difference between men and women in the posture of prostration?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The preponderant opinion is that there is no difference between men and women in the manner of prayer. The saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him, "Pray as you have seen me pray," is general and includes everyone. All narrations that differentiate between them are weak. Therefore, a woman performs in her prayer what a man performs in every aspect, including raising the hands, keeping the arms away from the sides (al-mujaafaah), straightening the back in bowing (ruku'), lifting the abdomen off the thighs in prostration (sujood), sitting on the left foot (al-iftiraash) in the sitting postures, and sitting with the left leg tucked under the right thigh (al-tawarruk) in the final tashahhud.
