Is what the rāqī (exorcist) does—linking specific verses to certain symptoms or effects on the patient or Jinn, such as verses of the evil eye and envy, or the verse "Remain ignominious therein" to silence the Jinn, or "And We sent it down, sending it down" to bring down the feeling of the Jinn from the head to the feet, or verses of punishment to expel the Jinn—considered an innovation (bid‘ah) or is it permissible? And what is the ruling on repeating specific verses based on certain fatāwā (religious edicts)?

It is permissible to recite any Surah or verses from the Quran, and to make supplications (du'a) and perform ruqyah (exorcism) with them. If symptoms of the evil eye or jinn possession appear, then ruqyah is prescribed. There is no innovation (bid'ah) in reciting certain Surahs and verses for ruqyah and expelling jinn; rather, it is legitimate. The Companions performed ruqyah with Surat Al-Fatihah, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, approved of it. Likewise, there is no harm for the raqi (exorcist) in addressing the jinn.

The legitimate treatment for someone afflicted by the evil eye or jinn possession is frequent recitation of healing verses and the Mu'awwidhat (Surahs of refuge) upon them. These include Al-Fatihah, Ayatul Kursi, the last two verses of Surat Al-Baqarah, "Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad" (Surat Al-Ikhlas), "Qul A'udhu bi Rabbil Falaq" (Surat Al-Falaq), "Qul A'udhu bi Rabbin Nas" (Surat An-Nas), and verses that mention healing with the Quran, such as: "And We send down from the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe" and "O mankind, there has come to you an admonition from your Lord and a healing for what is in the breasts."
