Is the jurisprudential difference considered a justification for some not praying behind the Imam, whether due to wiping over the socks or the difference in the time of the Asr prayer?

It is permissible to wipe over socks made of material other than leather, and this is the view of some scholars. As for the time of the Asr prayer, it begins when the shadow of everything becomes equal to its length. One should not abandon praying behind the Imam due to differences in jurisprudential issues that are subject to ijtihad, as this leads to disunity. It is imperative to strive for unity and agreement, especially in non-Islamic countries. The Companions, the Tabi'un, and the Four Imams prayed some behind others despite jurisprudential differences among them. None of the Salaf (pious predecessors) ever said that this was impermissible; whoever denies this is an innovator. The prayer of the follower behind the Imam is valid even if the follower believes that the Imam has done something that invalidates the prayer, because the follower believes that the Imam has exercised ijtihad and fulfilled what was incumbent upon him. The Imam's error does not extend to the follower, and the follower's prayer is valid if he completes his prayer according to what he believes to be correct.
