The question

What should a woman do if she gets her menstrual period in the following situations: after she has made the intention for 'Umrah but before entering into a state of Ihram while on board a ship, or after she has entered into a state of Ihram but before entering Mecca, or during the circumambulation (Tawaf) after three or four rounds, or after the Tawaf and during the ritual pacing (Sa'i) after three or four rounds?

The answer

The intent of ihram is to commence the ritual. If a woman experiences menstruation after entering ihram, she must remain in her state of ihram and avoid its prohibitions until she becomes pure, then she can complete her rituals. She is not permitted to perform Tawaf, pray, or enter the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) while menstruating. However, she can engage in dhikr (remembrance of God), du'a (supplication), and recite the Quran without touching the Mushaf (physical copy of the Quran). If menstruation begins during Tawaf, she must stop and wait until she becomes pure. If it begins after Tawaf but before or during Sa'i (the ritual circumambulation between Safa and Marwa), she is permitted to complete Sa'i because purity is not a condition for it.
