The answer

A man's statement: "Upon me be that which is lawful" (علي الحلال) is a euphemism for divorce. With the intention, divorce occurs thereby. If he did not intend divorce, nothing occurs. There is no difference between saying "Upon me be that which is lawful if I do such-and-such" (علي الحلال لأفعلن كذا) and "Upon me be that which is lawful" (علي الحلال) only, for both are euphemisms.
