What is the ruling on working in human smuggling by boat, and is it permissible to accept a gift (food or otherwise) from a person who works in that field?

Smuggling individuals into countries that prohibit their entry is forbidden due to the dangers and pursuits it causes them. Smuggling individuals from those who have a right to them, such as rulers, is forbidden because it constitutes cooperation in sin and aggression, and because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed whoever shelters an innovator. As for accepting a gift from a smuggler, if all his income is illicit, then it is forbidden to eat from it. If it is mixed, it is disliked but not forbidden.
