What is the ruling on refusing to help a financially needy relative residing in Saudi Arabia, when he was offered help in Syria, but refused to return?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

You should not refrain from helping your relative, whether he goes to his country or not, for helping him is better for you. Help him to the extent of your strength, ability, and circumstances if his assistance is costly. Allah Almighty said: "And let not those among you who are blessed with graces and abundance swear not to give (any longer) to their kinsfolk, the poor, and those who left their homes for Allah's Cause. Let them pardon and overlook. Do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful," and "Whoever does righteousness, it is for his own soul."
