Is it permissible to attach the remembrance of Allah to a specific number, such as "the number of everything and the fullness of everything" or "the number of His creation, the pleasure of His Self, the weight of His Throne, and the ink of His words," and will a person be rewarded for that number?

There is no harm for someone performing dhikr (remembrance of Allah) to glorify or praise Allah by saying: "as much as He has created," or "as much as fills everything," or "as much as everything," because this has been reported in the Sunnah. However, seeking forgiveness (istighfar) with these phrases has not been reported in the Sunnah. The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta' believes that this formulation has no basis, and it is better to abandon it, because dhikr and istighfar are acts of worship that are tawqifi (meaning they must be performed exactly as prescribed in the sacred texts). The master of istighfar is: "O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me, and I am Your servant, and I am on Your covenant and Your promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for indeed none forgives sins except You."
