What is the ruling on burning a harmful insect, such as a cockroach, and is this forbidden, and if it is forbidden, what is the expiation for this action?

It is not permissible to burn harmful insects with fire. And whoever does so out of ignorance of the ruling, it is hoped that Allah will not hold him accountable for it if he repents from it, and nothing is required of him other than repentance.
