If the money given to the family of the deceased is blood money (like in car accidents), then it is divided among the heirs like the rest of the inheritance. The killer is deprived of his share of it. If he killed him by mistake, he inherits everything except the blood money. If he killed him intentionally and aggressively, he inherits neither from the blood money nor from anything else.
However, if it is a grant from the state or social security, it is divided in the manner specified by the granting authority. If nothing is specified, then common practice is referred to for its division.
