Is it permissible to borrow five kilograms of wheat on condition that the like be returned upon the caravan's return?

Scholars have differed regarding the validity of stipulating a term (ajal) in a loan (qard). The majority hold that the term is not binding, and the lender may reclaim the loan before its due date, though the loan itself remains valid. In contrast, the Malikis, Al-Layth, Ibn Taymiyyah, and Ibn al-Qayyim maintain the validity and binding nature of stipulating a term, citing as evidence the hadith: "Muslims are bound by their conditions." The Malikis also permit ignorance of the term in a loan.
