What is the ruling on one who was blessed with a child with Down syndrome, and supplicated in his prayers and qunut: "O Allah, grant her life if You know that life is better for her, and cause her to die if You know that death is better for her," then the child died three months after her birth?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade supplicating against one's children, saying: "Do not supplicate against yourselves, nor supplicate against your children, nor supplicate against your wealth. Do not coincide with a moment from Allah in which He is asked for a bounty, and He answers your supplication." Nevertheless, the authentic Hadith permits a person afflicted with tribulation to supplicate for death if death is better for him, such as saying: "O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die if death is better for me." There is no difference between the supplication of an afflicted person for himself and the supplication of others for him with a similar supplication.
