A man is a maintainer of a woman through management and organization, not through domination. A wife's obedience to her husband is obligatory in matters of marriage and its related aspects. The husband is commanded to treat his wife with kindness. His statement: "You are not allowed to breathe without my knowledge" is not considered kindness, as it generates alienation. Regarding the husband preventing communication with someone, mutual understanding and respect are necessary. If the husband insists on the prohibition, and there is a need for consultation, it is permissible to call the consultant without his knowledge. Jurists have stipulated the permissibility of a woman leaving for her needs without her husband's permission if her husband does not suffice her in that regard. A woman's conversation with a non-mahram man is permissible when there is a need, provided it is limited to the extent of the need and conducted in a conventional manner.
