Is it Islamically permissible not to desire recovery from epilepsy, in the hope that it will be an expiation for sins?

It is permissible to endure affliction and not wish for healing from it for whoever is able to be patient and seek reward from Allah Almighty, and they may abandon the means of treatment, as scholars have mentioned. This is indicated by the hadith of the black woman who was given the choice between patiently enduring epilepsy, for which she would have Paradise, or having a supplication made for her healing, and she chose patience. In it, there is evidence that patience in the face of affliction leads to Paradise, and that taking the harder path is better for one who knows they have the strength for it, and it shows the permissibility of not seeking medical treatment.
