Is it better for an individual to pray alone in his home/work, or to catch the congregational prayer even if it is during the last rak‘ah, if one knows that he will not catch more than the last rak‘ah?

We have clarified that congregational prayer is obligatory in the mosque, and it is not permissible to miss it except for a valid excuse. It is also superior to praying alone by twenty-seven degrees, a fact confirmed by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Therefore, if you do not have a valid excuse for missing the congregation, you must go to the mosque, even if you only catch one unit (rak'ah); because one rak'ah allows one to attain the virtue of congregational prayer. Scholars have differed on whether less than a rak'ah can still earn the virtue of congregational prayer or not.
