What is the religious ruling on a polygamous husband's refusal to spend on his working wife who is capable of earning, while only providing accommodation for her? Does he have the right of guardianship over her by preventing her from visiting her female relatives or friends? And what is the ruling on his repeated refusal to go out with her for recreation?
A husband must be just between his wives regarding expenses and lodging. Your husband's failure to provide for you is an injustice that incurs sin. If a husband is stingy with expenses, it is permissible for you to take from his money what is sufficient for your needs, even without his knowledge, or to refer the matter to the court. It is recommended for a husband to be just in everything, including going out for recreation. The husband's guardianship requires that the wife does not go out except with his permission. You must obey him if he forbids you from visiting your relatives, but he should not forbid it unless there is a valid reason. We advise you to be patient, engage in dialogue, supplicate, and seek the mediation of righteous people.
