Is it permissible for a father to allow his ex-wife—who was divorced due to marital infidelity, deals with sorcerers and charlatans, and is seeking separation from her second husband—to live permanently with their student children in Egypt, knowing that the children desire this and the father’s new wife does not object to her communicating with them on the condition that she does not divorce her?

It is better for the wife to remain with her husband and be patient with him. If a divorce occurs and the mother sincerely repents of her sins, such as sorcery and indecencies, then there is no impediment to her living with her children out of compassion for her, to protect the children’s honor, and to keep the family together, given the great right of the mother. However, if she persists in her bad behavior, she should not be allowed to live with them for fear of her influence on them, though there is no impediment to her communicating with them in the presence of their father.
